A fire destroyed a church in Juarez but spared a Virgin of Guadalupe image despite the fierce blaze. The incident took place at about 4:04 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at San Agustín Chapel at Paseos del Alba and Paseos del Ángel Streets. (Jesus Alcazar / El Paso Times)

this guadalupe statue is quite new and i haven’t been able to photograph it yet. thankfully, i found this image to be about the nicest and most evocative of the guadalupe, her spirit, and those who pray for her intercession to her son. and, the photographer kindly allows redistribution with attribution. thanks, denise womack avila!
when we lived in santa fe, the guadalupe church was a venue for the santa fe chamber music festival. there, we were able to attend andré-michel schub’s performance of bach’s goldberg variations. it was the first time we had heard the variations, which i’ve loved ever since. at the time, schub had either won the van cliburn immediately before or after the festival performance. here is his final and winning performance for that competition.
